It all started with a request from a client. Traditionally, PDA testing requires transducers to be mounted some distance down the pile – typically at least two times the pile diameter from the top. In practice, this often means one thing: excavation.
It’s time-consuming ⏳. It costs money. And it’s not always an attractive solution. So we started asking ourselves: Is there another way? 💡
In collaboration with Pile Dynamics, Inc., we got started. First sketches. Then drawings. Followed by a 3D-printed prototype to test the idea. And now - a finished solution. The result is a new TopForceTransducer that can be mounted directly on the pile head 🔧
This means we can now perform PDA testing on piles where only about 20 cm is visible above ground - without the need for excavation, and in some cases with minimal preparation of the pile head.
A small change in method. But a big difference in practice.
